Los Angeles, CA, 8/8/2024 – Last Friday, trial attorney Tomas Ross of the Drake Law Firm announced that a Riverside County jury reached a verdict of $353,757.20 for his client, plaintiff Terry Spillards, who was hurt in a low-speed traffic accident in 2020. The case was referred to Mr. Ross five weeks before trial, at which point he retained 3D Forensic Inc develop several communicative forensic animations.

Offered only $30,000 to settle, Mr. Ross faced an uphill battle and prepared for trial. Mr. Ross retained 3D Forensic Inc to visualize the analysis of accident reconstructionist Ken Pearl and orthopedic surgeon Dr. Sepan Kasimian so the jury could visually understand what happened. With this rapid turnaround time, Director of Production Steve Swelha undertook special care to produce a stellar visual demonstration of the incident and injuries.

“3D Forensic Inc was professional, efficient and effective. I will definitely use them for future trial animations," said Mr. Ross following this result.

The initial accident took place while Mr. Spillards was driving on I-15 outside of Los Angeles. As he was stopped in traffic, the defendant's driver impacted Mr. Spillards’s pickup truck from the rear at about 17 miles per hour, resulting in moderate vehicle damage.

Following this accident, Mr. Spillards suffered intense neck and back pain and required specialized medical care including therapeutic treatment, epidural steroid injection and a foraminotomy. These injuries kept him from work, leading to significant loss of wages.

3D Forensic utilized the reconstructive capabilities of the 3D Working Model to verify and visualize the forensic accident reconstruction of Mr. Ken Pearl. After inputting his analysis and 3D modeling the accident environment, vehicles (based on precise laser scan measurements), and drivers involved, our working model was rendered into the following animation.

To demonstrate the extent of medical care needed after this accident, the team reviewed Mr. Spillards's medical records. 3DF then animated the cervical injection administered to Mr. Spillards for his ongoing pain as well as his foraminotomy surgery step-by-step to explain which vertebrae were injured and how the operation was performed.

3D Forensic consulted with the plaintiff’s testifying doctor to confirm the focuses and specifics of each procedure.

After completing these exhibits in time for trial, the jury listened to both sides’ arguments, observed the evidence as well as our exhibits, and rendered the following verdict:

  • Past Medical Expenses: $184,677.20
  • Past Lost Earnings: $19,080.00
  • Past Pain and Suffering: $125,000.00
  • Future Pain and Suffering: $25,000.00

Special thank you to Mr. Tomas Ross, the Drake Law Firm, Ken Pearl and Dr. Sepan Kasimian for your work with us on this case.
